Subject: Inauguration
During the Presidential inauguration held on January 20, 2001, George W. Bush was sworn
in as the 43rd President of the United States of America. The new President gave a short
and to the point speech, afterwards George W. Bush along with his family and the former
President, Bill Clinton, made their way to the inside of Capital Hill to soon leave for
the traditional luncheon.
After George W. Bush was sworn in as the new president and the trade of power was made,
Mr. Bush delivered a small, but very promising speech. The President talked on how, we as
Americans, should be proud of who we are. The President addressed that the schools were a
very important issue to him. Bush emphasized on how he would start to rebuild our
military status. All with which was also emphasized in Bush's campaign. After the speech,
it was disused that President Bush included the two issues in his speech, because he felt
that they were some of the factors that got him in the position that he is in now.
The President included in his speech on how the American people should be more that just
people, but they should be citizens. Bush emphasized that we should give more than we
should, in a round of about way he was saying, give 110 percent of what you have.
Following the speech and the prayer, President Bush and the first lady walked side by
side with the former President and the former first lady escorting the former President
and his wife to their limousine, in which would take them to the luncheon. The new
Vice-President and his wife escorted the former Vice-President and his wife to their
limousine.
Before leaving Capital Hill President Bush signed the official papers making him
President. Afterwards the luncheon was held with honored guests, which included, former
President Bush and his wife along with former President Clinton and his wife.
The big deal with the whole ceremony, because of the changing of powers is truly to be
unknown. The ceremony means different things to different people. The problem is that
Americans are too stubborn to submit to change. All America is about is tradition. It
does seem like a very special occasion to be celebrating, but maybe it should not be as
big as the American people make it out to be.
There is not a massive celebration that goes on during the trading of power when the
members of congress are elected. A small gathering of people would be fit enough for the
changing of the President and his power, not some huge party with thousands of people
gathered. It just seems like a real waste of American tax dollars. Instead of the
American people realizing that it is a waste of time, money, and effort to gather so many
people and resources together, they mob to the place of celebration and support the waste
of their own money. "NBC News, Channel 6 WECT"
